Chapter 6 - LUCY SAID SOMETHING THAT BROKE MEA forensic child interviewer spoke with Lucy.

Not me.
Not Melissa.
Professionals.
I was terrified.
I did not want her questioned repeatedly.
The interviewer used open prompts.
No leading.
Lucy described “practice.”
Mommy said:
“Daddy pushes.”
Dr. Vale said:
“Try again.”
Mommy said:
“If you tell good, we go to California.”
Then Lucy said:
“I didn’t want Daddy to go jail.”
My chest broke.
She thought the lies could send me to jail.
She had been carrying that fear alone.
Then:
“Mommy says Daddy will hate me if I tell wrong.”
The interviewer asked:
“What is wrong?”
Lucy answered:
“The true one.”
That phrase destroyed me.
May you like
The true one.
Melissa had taught her truth was the wrong answer.
