Chapter 14: The Return of the Missing Sister

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Darius couldn’t.

The woman standing in the doorway looked back at him with the same eyes he remembered.

Older.

More tired.

But unmistakably hers.

His sister.

The person he had mourned.

The person he had searched for.

The person he believed was gone forever.

His knees almost failed him.

“No…”

She took one step forward.

“Darius.””

That voice.

That voice confirmed everything.

He covered his mouth.

For years, he had imagined this moment.

A reunion.

An explanation.

A miracle.

But he never imagined feeling so many emotions at once.

Anger.

Relief.

Pain.

Love.

“You’re alive.””

His sister nodded.

“Yes.””

The room remained frozen.

Darius looked at Raymond.

Then Simone.

Then Marcus.

“You all knew?””

Nobody answered.

He laughed quietly.

Not because it was funny.

Because he didn’t know what else to do.

“You all knew she was alive.””

His sister stepped forward.

“I told them not to tell you.””

Darius looked at her.

“Why?””

She looked down.

“Because I thought I was protecting you.””

The same words.

Again.

Protecting.

Darius wiped his face.

“Everyone keeps protecting me from the truth.””

His voice cracked.

“But nobody cared what losing you did to me.””

His sister looked devastated.

“I know.””

“No.””

He shook his head.

“You don’t.””

She stepped closer.

“I do.””

Her eyes filled.

“Because I watched.””

The words stunned him.

“What?””

“I watched from a distance.””

Darius stared.

“You watched me?””

She nodded.

“I saw you rebuild your life.””

“Then why didn’t you come home?””

She looked at Raymond.

Then Simone.

Then the hidden documents.

“Because I knew if I returned too soon, everything would fall apart.””

Darius looked around.

“It already did.””

His sister accepted that.

“I know.””

She took a breath.

“I was investigating what Raymond was doing.””

Raymond looked away.

“I found proof.””

Darius looked at the documents.

“The company records?””

“Yes.””

“Why involve Simone?””

His sister looked at Simone.

“Because she was the only person I trusted.””

Simone lowered her eyes.

“I owed her.””

Darius frowned.

“Owed her?””

Simone looked at him.

“Before I met you, your sister helped me escape a situation I couldn’t handle.””

Darius listened.

“She saved me.””

The pieces slowly connected.

The fake pregnancy.

The secrets.

The documents.

The hidden room.

All of it was connected to a promise made years ago.

His sister continued.

“When I discovered Raymond was still searching for the evidence, I needed someone close to you.””

Darius looked at Simone.

“So she came into my life because of this.””

Simone nodded.

“At first.””

The honesty hurt.

“But then?””

Simone looked at him.

“Then you became real.””

The room went silent.

Darius looked away.

Because part of him wanted to believe her.

And another part was terrified.

His sister stepped closer.

“The pregnancy lie was my idea.””

Everyone looked at her.

Darius froze.

“What?””

She nodded.

“I needed Raymond to reveal himself.””

“How?””

“Because he believed you would never question a pregnant wife.””

Darius looked at Simone.

She whispered:

“I was supposed to create a distraction.””

His sister continued.

“But I underestimated something.””

“What?””

She looked at Darius.

“You.””

He frowned.

“Me?””

“You always notice when someone you love is hurting.””

The words hit him.

Because they were true.

He noticed Ava.

He noticed Simone.

He noticed everyone.

Except the truth.

His sister smiled sadly.

“I knew eventually you would uncover everything.””

Darius looked at the documents.

“So why now?””

Her expression changed.

“Because Raymond found the final piece.””

“What piece?””

Nobody answered.

Then Raymond suddenly moved.

Everyone turned.

He reached inside his jacket.

Security reacted immediately.

But Raymond wasn’t reaching for a weapon.

He pulled out a small envelope.

A final envelope.

“I was trying to destroy this.””

Darius stared.

“What is it?””

Raymond looked at him.

“The truth about your father.””

The room went silent.

Darius slowly took the envelope.

His hands shook.

Another secret.

Another piece of his family’s history.

He opened it.

Inside was one page.

One sentence.

And when he read it, his entire expression changed.

Because the person who had started everything…

was not Raymond.

Was not Simone.

May you like

Was not his sister.

It was someone Darius had spent his entire life trusting.
