Chapter 1: The Lie Inside the Mansion

“Bianca, you’ll learn to obey me!””

The words echoed across the white marble floor of the mansion before I even knew my life was about to change forever.

For years, everyone who walked through those doors believed my family had everything. A beautiful home. A successful business.

Perfect photographs hanging on the walls. The kind of life strangers admired from the outside.

But that evening, my six-year-old son was being dragged across that same polished floor by the one person who was supposed to protect him.

My name is Victor Hayes, and I thought I knew the woman I married.

I was wrong.

The first thing I saw when I stepped through the front door was not the luxury chandelier above me. Not the expensive furniture. Not the glass staircase that had cost more than some people’s houses.

I saw Eli.

My son was on the floor, his tiny black formal suit wrinkled and covered with tears. One of his small shoes had slipped loose as Bianca pulled him backward by his ankle.

His cries were quiet.

That scared me more than screaming.

“Daddy…”

That single word nearly broke something inside me.

“ELI!””

I dropped my briefcase instantly.

The sound of it hitting the marble floor barely registered as I ran across the room.

Bianca froze.

Her hand released my son’s ankle, but it was already too late. I had seen everything.

I lifted Eli into my arms, holding him against my chest.

“Are you hurt?”” I whispered.

Eli buried his face into my shoulder.

“Daddy, I was scared.””

My jaw tightened.

Behind me, Bianca stood perfectly still.

She looked nothing like the woman strangers praised at charity events. Her cream tweed suit was flawless. Her jewelry sparkled under the bright lights. Her hair was perfectly arranged.

But her eyes gave her away.

Fear.

“Victor,” Bianca said softly, forcing a calm smile, “you’re misunderstanding what happened.””

I turned around slowly.

“What did you do to him?””

Her expression changed.

Not sadness.

Not guilt.

Anger.

“He attacked me first.””

The room became silent.

Even the mansion seemed to stop breathing.

“What?”” I asked.

Bianca pointed toward Eli.

“He became aggressive. He threw something at me. I was only trying to control him.””

Behind her, Grace stood near the staircase.

Grace had worked for our family for almost ten years. She had cared for Eli since he was a baby. She was the closest thing my son had to another mother after his real mother disappeared from our lives.

Grace’s hand was pressed against her cheek.

A red mark was already forming.

“No, sir,” Grace said quietly.

Bianca’s eyes snapped toward her.

“Grace.””

The warning in Bianca’s voice was clear.

But Grace stepped forward anyway.

“No, sir. She’s lying.””

Bianca laughed once.

A cold, empty sound.

“Be careful what you accuse people of.””

Grace swallowed.

“I know what I saw.””

I looked between them.

“What happened here?””

Grace opened her mouth, but before she could answer, her eyes moved upward.

Toward the security camera mounted near the hallway.

“I saved the recording.””

Bianca’s face changed instantly.

Only for a second.

But I noticed.

She knew.

I pulled out my phone.

Our mansion had cameras throughout the main areas. Bianca had insisted on installing them after saying she wanted to “protect our family.””

Now, for the first time, I wondered who she really wanted protection from.

My fingers moved quickly across the screen.

The security app opened.

Bianca took a step forward.

“Victor, don’t.””

I looked up.

“Why?””

She didn’t answer.

Her confidence disappeared.

The woman who always controlled every room was suddenly afraid of a small screen in my hand.

I pressed play.

The footage appeared.

The first seconds showed exactly what I had walked into.

Bianca grabbing Eli.

Dragging him.

Grace rushing toward them.

Then the slap.

My stomach turned.

Eli tightened his arms around my neck.

“Daddy…”

“I’m here,” I whispered.

But then I noticed something.

The video continued.

Before I entered the house.

Before Grace tried to stop Bianca.

Before everything exploded.

There was another conversation.

Bianca was kneeling in front of Eli.

Her voice was low.

The audio was faint, but clear enough.

I leaned closer.

And then I heard my wife ask my son a question that made my blood run cold.

“Where did your mother tell you to hide it?””

I stopped breathing.

I looked at Bianca.

She looked back at me.

The color had drained from her face.

“What were you asking my son about?””

She said nothing.

Grace looked terrified.

Eli slowly lifted his head from my shoulder.

His little voice barely came out.

“Daddy…”

I looked down.

“What is it?””

His eyes filled with fresh tears.

“Bianca said Mommy is still alive.””

The world around me went silent.

Because my son’s mother had been gone for six years.

And Bianca was the only person who knew the full story.

I slowly turned toward my wife.

“Tell me what you know.””

Bianca opened her mouth.

May you like

But before she could answer, the security footage on my phone revealed another detail.

A detail that changed everything.
