Chapter 6: The Woman Who Entered My Life
I couldn’t stop watching the footage.
Rain poured over the driveway.
The old security camera captured everything in grainy black and white.
But there was no mistake.
Bianca was there.
Six years ago.
The same night Amelia disappeared.
The same night my entire world changed.
“She lied to me,” I whispered.
Nobody answered.
Because everyone knew.
The worst lies are not the ones people tell.
They’re the ones they live.
Bianca stood near the couch, completely silent.
For once, she had no explanation ready.
No excuse.
No carefully chosen words.
I looked at her.
“How did you know where Amelia was?””
Her eyes filled with tears.
“I didn’t.””
I shook my head.
“The camera says otherwise.””
She looked toward Amelia.
Then at Eli.
Then back at me.
“I was trying to help.””
Amelia laughed softly.
There was no happiness in it.
“Help?””
Bianca looked at her.
“You don’t understand.””
“No,” Amelia said.
“I understand perfectly.””
The two women stared at each other.
Two people connected by a secret I was only beginning to uncover.
“Tell me everything,” I said.
Neither spoke.
My voice became louder.
“Now.””
Eli flinched.
I immediately softened.
I walked over and knelt beside him.
“I’m sorry.””
He looked at me.
“I’m not angry at you.””
He nodded.
Then he whispered:
“Daddy… are you going to leave too?””
The question destroyed me.
I pulled him close.
“Never.””
Behind him, I saw Bianca look away.
Maybe she finally understood what she had done.
She hadn’t just hidden a secret.
She had damaged the one thing I valued more than anything.
My son’s sense of safety.
Amelia sat down slowly.
“I need to tell you what happened.””
I stayed standing.
“Start at the beginning.””
She took a deep breath.
“Six years ago, I discovered Daniel was stealing from the company.””
My eyes narrowed.
“What?””
“He was moving money through fake accounts. I found documents.””
Grace looked shocked.
“Daniel?””
Amelia nodded.
“He found out I knew.””
The room became colder.
“I thought he would threaten me. I thought he would try to destroy my reputation.””
She looked at Bianca.
“I never expected her.””
Bianca closed her eyes.
Amelia continued.
“Bianca was working with him.””
I stared.
“Why?””
Bianca finally spoke.
“Because I had no choice.””
Everyone looked at her.
She wiped her tears.
“You think I wanted this?””
Her voice cracked.
“I was trapped.””
I didn’t move.
“Explain.””
She looked at Amelia.
Then at me.
“Daniel threatened my family.””
The room went silent.
For a second, I saw something human in her.
Fear.
Pain.
But then I remembered Eli crying on the marble floor.
I remembered Grace’s red cheek.
I remembered six years of lies.
“So you protected yourself.””
Bianca shook her head.
“No. I tried to fix it.””
Amelia stood.
“You made it worse.””
Bianca looked at her.
“I saved you.””
The words stopped everyone.
Amelia froze.
“What?””
Bianca swallowed.
“I was the reason you survived that night.””
I felt my heartbeat change.
“What are you saying?””
Bianca looked at Amelia.
“I helped you escape.””
Amelia stared at her.
“That’s not what happened.””
“No,” Bianca whispered.
“It’s not what you remember.””
The room went silent.
Because suddenly there were two versions of the same night.
Two stories.
Two women.
And only one could be true.
I looked at Amelia.
“What happened after Bianca helped you?””
Amelia’s face changed.
Fear returned.
“She wasn’t the only person there.””
My phone suddenly rang.
Unknown number.
Again.
Everyone froze.
I answered.
A man’s voice came through.
Calm.
Confident.
Familiar.
“Victor.””
I knew that voice.
Daniel.
My grip tightened around the phone.
“Where are you?””
A pause.
Then:
“Watching.””
I looked around the mansion.
The cameras.
The screens.
The locked doors.
Daniel continued.
“You finally opened the message.””
My blood ran cold.
“What do you want?””
A quiet laugh.
“I want you to ask your wife one question.””
I looked at Bianca.
Daniel’s voice lowered.
“Ask her why Amelia was really going to leave you that night.””
The call ended.
And Bianca whispered the answer before I could ask.
“She found out the truth about Eli’s father.””
I froze.
Because Eli was my son.
May you like
Wasn’t he?
And suddenly, every secret in my house became a question.
