Chapter 16 - PAIGE LEARNED WHAT SILENCE COSTSPaige struggled with guilt.

She started therapy.

Eventually, she asked to speak with Emma.

Not about Elaine.

About herself.

She said:

“I saw Grandma take you outside.”

Emma nodded.

“I should have followed.”

“Yes.”

Paige cried.

“I’m sorry.”

Emma asked:

“Were you scared of Grandma?”

“Yes.”

“Me too.”

That sentence changed Paige.

She later told me:

“I spent my whole life thinking fear of Mom was respect.”

It wasn’t.

That realization helped her establish boundaries.

Not dramatic estrangement.

Just adulthood.

No more automatic obedience.
