Chapter 21 - THE PERSON WHO REALLY OWNED THE FORTUNELegally, no one “owned” the family fortune in the simple way Elaine imagined.

That was the final revelation.

The estate had been locked in trusts for generations.

Richard controlled it.

Elaine used it.

Lucas expected it.

Emma benefited from it.

But ownership was distributed through legal obligations.

The house belonged to the trust.

The company had shareholders.

Employees created value.

The family held stewardship rights.

The myth of one person “owning everything” had fueled half the conflict.

Samuel once told Lucas:

“Your mother thought inheritance was a throne.”

Lucas answered:

May you like

“And Dad turned it into a job.”

Exactly.
